July 2010 blog

July 22, 2010--Deale, MD

Eric's notes--Where we are located now, in Deale, there is no decent wifi which makes doing updates difficult.  I apologize for letting a month lapse between postings.

A lot has changed since the last post.  We are in the heat of summer on the Chesapeake, enduring temps in the 90's and even over 100 degrees at times.  Luckily, the marina has a pool that we have been able to soak in.  I imagine this heatwave will have to break at some point, but for right now, it makes working on the boat more of a challenge.  We get up and do as much as we can early in the morning, then have to stop midday and pick up again in the evening.  We are in the process of stripping and refinishing the exterior teak to get Further looking good again.  The hull needs attention too, mainly removing the ICW mustache we got while traveling south and then back north.

We will be moving from Deale to exploring the Bay shortly, and we should have better wifi and be able to do more frequent updates to the blog.

Crabbing has still been good, but with the Bay so full of blue crabs this summer, the local establishments have been practically giving them away at $1.50 per crab.  We usually like to eat 4 or 5 each, plus side dishes, making them a relatively cheap meal if we go out.  This affordable price makes the process of baiting a trap and catching them seem like too much work.  I guess it's a bit like gardening where the produce is not necessarily cheaper, but just fresher and yields a sense of accomplishment.

That's about it for now.  We will try to update again soon.
